Turkish National Intelligence Organization chief Ibrahim Kalin met Iraqi Council of Representatives Speaker Haibat al Halbousi in Ankara to discuss regional and international developments, security sources have said.
Thursday’s meeting focused on steps to strengthen cooperation between Türkiye and Iraq, particularly in security, and address outstanding issues, the sources said.
The two officials discussed cooperation mechanisms aimed at advancing their shared interests and supporting regional security and stability.
They also addressed the rehabilitation of Iraq’s water infrastructure, agricultural projects, reconstruction, housing and infrastructure, as well as the Development Road Project.
Security and strategic ties
Kalin and al Halbousi discussed further steps to deepen strategic and economic cooperation between the two countries.
They also addressed Iraq’s efforts to bring weapons under exclusive state control.
Al Halbousi reiterated his support for Türkiye’s Terror-Free Türkiye process, saying its success would have significant implications for the wider region.
The two sides agreed to further strengthen close cooperation on bilateral and regional issues.
