China’s vice president has voiced Beijing's opposition to "unilateral military actions" amid the ongoing US-Iran conflict, also using his address to the UN General Assembly to urge a two-state solution to the Palestinian issue.
"We should settle differences and disputes through dialogue and consultation and oppose unilateral military actions that violate the UN Charter and circumvent Security Council authorisation," Han Zheng said.
He urged major countries to shoulder "special responsibilities for safeguarding international peace and security" and take the lead in "complying with the rules, upholding the rule of law, and doing what's right."
He also said on Saturday that China believes it should respect the sovereignty and security of Middle Eastern countries, including Gulf states.
"International industrial and supply chains should be kept stable and unimpeded, and global trade should be safeguarded," said Han.
He called for advancing governance in the occupied West Bank and post-conflict reconstruction in Gaza in line with the principle of Palestinians governing Palestine.
China also calls for "bringing the Palestinian question back onto the right track of the two-state solution at an early date," he said.
On Ukraine, he said China plays a continued "constructive role in its own way" to achieve a political settlement of the crisis, also urging "the relevant country to immediately stop using the threat of force against Cuba and immediately and completely lift the blockade and sanctions against Cuba."
On tech advances, he said the world should take a people-centred approach and ensure positive AI development amid rapid technological and industrial transformation, while narrowing the digital divide and promoting universally beneficial development.
