Any Iranian funds released by the US Treasury will remain under strict American oversight and can only be used to purchase humanitarian goods from the United States, US President Donald Trump said.
In a post on Truth Social on Tuesday, Trump said the funds would be placed in escrow accounts controlled by Washington and restricted to food and medical supplies.
“The money and/or sanctions that the U.S. Treasury is releasing goes into escrow, controlled by the U.S.A., and will be used for the purchase of food and medical supplies, exclusively from the United States,” Trump wrote.
He added that the arrangement would benefit American farmers by boosting exports of corn, wheat and soybeans, which he said are urgently needed in Iran amid a humanitarian crisis.
Oil license linked to nuclear deal
Trump’s comments came after the Treasury Department issued a temporary 60-day license allowing Iranian oil sales under a new nuclear framework aimed at easing tensions between Washington and Tehran.
The administration has maintained that any sanctions relief would be carefully managed and tied to specific conditions, with humanitarian needs taking priority.
Hormuz flows highlighted
In a separate social media post, Trump pointed to what he described as record oil traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, claiming that 19 million barrels of oil passed through the strategic waterway on Monday.
He argued that the increase in oil flows was helping drive down energy prices and improve global stability, presenting it as a sign of progress following recent diplomatic efforts involving Iran.
