Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has received Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze for separate high-level talks in New York, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.

The closed-door meetings were held at the Turkevi Centre, or Turkish House, across from the UN headquarters.

During talks with Kurti, the two sides discussed bilateral relations between Türkiye and Kosovo alongside broader regional and global developments, according to an official statement by Türkiye's Communications Directorate.

Erdogan affirmed that Türkiye will continue taking concrete steps to expand bilateral trade to a level reflecting the true economic potential of both nations, the statement said.

He also stated that Ankara will work to advance joint cooperation in security and defence manufacturing.

Strategic partnerships

Erdogan assured Kurti that Türkiye will maintain steadfast support for Kosovo in securing "its rightful place" across the international community, adding that Ankara remains committed to fostering constructive dialogue among Balkan states.

During the meeting, the Turkish president extended a formal invitation to Kurti to attend the COP31 Leaders' Summit, which Türkiye is scheduled to host in Antalya this November.

Türkiye and Kosovo share historically friendly ties, with Ankara formally recognising Kosovo on February 18, 2008, the day following its declaration of independence.

Separately, Erdogan met with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze at the Turkevi Center for bilateral consultations.

Türkiye recognised Georgia's independence in 1991, signing the Protocol on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations in 1992, with relations between the two Black Sea neighbours currently standing at the level of a strategic partnership.
