British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband said that the UK's measures targeting illegal Israeli settlements show it will "not acquiesce" in the destruction of the two-state solution, which he warned is under unprecedented threat.

In a video message shared on X on Thursday, Miliband recalled Britain's recognition of the state of Palestine a year ago at the UN in New York, describing the move as "long overdue."

"The two-state solution is under threat as never before from the Israeli government's actions," he said.

He said Britain is moving to ban imports from illegal Israeli settlements and cut off financing, construction and other services that facilitate settlement expansion.

"The set of measures I have announced represents a clear message to the government of Israel, to the Palestinians in the occupied territories, and to the world that we will not acquiesce in the destruction of the two-state solution," he said.

Humanitarian aid

Miliband also said that Britain is announcing further humanitarian support this week for Palestinians in besieged Gaza and the occupied West Bank.

He called on the Israeli government to "immediately and permanently lift restrictions on aid."

The foreign secretary said Britain would continue international efforts for accountability and to end Israel’s aggression.

Israel has killed nearly 74,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and wounded more than 175,000 others in its genocide in Gaza since October 2023.

Israel continued daily violations of the ceasefire, killing 1,408 Palestinians and wounding 4,916 others.
