Türkiye has affirmed it will not consent to any formula that does not serve Libya's national interests, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told the Chairman of the Presidential Council of Libya, Mohamed Menfi, during talks in New York on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Erdogan and Menfi held a closed-door meeting at the Turkevi Center, situated opposite the UN headquarters.
The bilateral discussions focused on Türkiye-Libya relations alongside wider regional developments, according to an official statement issued by Türkiye's Communications Directorate.
Erdogan stressed that Türkiye is continuing its sustained diplomatic and operational efforts to support stability across Libya, emphasising the vital importance of preserving a comprehensive political process anchored in national dialogue and reconciliation.
Energy and defence cooperation
The Turkish president also affirmed that joint work remains actively underway to expand bilateral cooperation between Ankara and Tripoli in the critical sectors of energy, defence, and mining.
During their review of internal Libyan developments and broader regional issues, Erdogan extended an official invitation to Menfi to attend the high-level COP31 Leaders' Summit, which Türkiye is scheduled to host in the Mediterranean city of Antalya this November.
The Communications Directorate noted that, guided by deep historical and cultural ties, Türkiye continues to attach the utmost importance to the security, welfare, and institutional stability of the Libyan people.
